The 2026 tournament in the USA will be the 23rd World Cup, and takes place June 11 and July 19, 2026.
It will be jointly hosted by 16 cities in three North American countries, with the United States hosting the majority of the matches, and Canada and Mexico have also been chosen to host selected matches. This makes it the first tournament to be hosted by three nations, and it is the first North American World Cup since 1994.
This will be the first ever tournament to involve 48 teams, increased from 32 from the previous tournaments.
As the host countries, Canada, Mexico and the United States gain automatic qualification.
The current holders are Argentina, who beat France 3-2 at the 2022 final held in Lussail, Qatar.
